Scouts Australia
Scouts Australia are proud community partners of ANTARCTICA 2023 – A Journey for the Future of our Planet.
As former Scouts, Gareth and Richard were provided with foundation skills for life thanks to their time in Scouting. They follow in the footsteps of explorer Sir Douglas Mawson who was awarded the Silver Wolf, the highest Scouting medal of its time (1915). An award which reflected the qualities of a Scout – discipline, obedience, resourcefulness and self-reliance.
Scouts Australia provides young people aged 5 to 25 with fun and challenging opportunities to grow through adventure. With around 70,000 members, Scouts Australia is one of the largest youth development organisations in Australia. What makes us unique is the diverse range of activities that develop skills in young people; from leadership, teamwork, and resilience to problem solving and communication.
As Community Partners, The Last Great First Pty Ltd will show Scouts there’s no limit to the possibilities with Scouting. Whether it’s a short bushwalk or a 75 day expedition across the Antarctic, Scouting provides skills for life.
Together, The Last Great First Pty Ltd and Scouts Australia are collaborating to promote action on the Sustainable Development Goals and climate change.
Instead of learning in a formal way, Scouts learn by doing, tackling projects in small groups or teams called Patrols. Being engaged and involved, making decisions and learning from mistakes form part of the process as Scouts Australia is an accredited member of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM), which has over 40 million members in 172 National Scout Organisations around the world and are guided and advised by trained adults.
