As we come to the final few kilometres of Berkner Island it still has a little treat in store for us; the snow has suddenly become very soft and powdery. Our still-heavy sleds are digging deeply in, making the going really tough and slowing us down. We’ve still made a decent distance though but it’ll be nice if the surface firms up again. We should come off Berkner Island during the day tomorrow and start to venture across the Ronne/Filchner Ice Shelf – exciting times!
